Being an immigrant and not having residency status these days creates a very desperate situation. The political climate is always scary, however now, it is even to a heightened level. These clients are anxious, depressed, not sleeping, not speaking about what they are feeling, and likely they have been scammed by at least one person by the time you meet with them. It’s important to understand how they feel, whatever culture they are from I hear the same stories, the same feelings and the same fears.

This training will encompass many issues that are important in understanding how to write an immigration psychological evaluation that is effective towards the client’s mental well-being. Whether you are writing this report for a child/spouse/brother/sister/mother/father, you will continue to hear very similar situations. Cultural competency is very important, understanding trauma and assessment writing is also very important. These letters or reports should be somewhere around 9-14 pages. You can imagine that it will take some time to compile this information to write the compelling argument about the extreme hardship this client and their family will experience if their loved one is deported.

This training will create a picture of the average client that will need a psychological evaluation and his/her family system. It’s important to understand the family system in order to help in the healing process. It’s also helpful for the family to support each other through this process, however they are likely not talking about this to anyone.

This training includes a module for each step of this process. Whether it is what the forms could look like, what needs to be filled out by your client, diagnosis and the necessity for taking your time with this component, how to understand the common traits you will see in your office and finally walking through a Mock Psychological Evaluation Report and what information it needs to include in order for the Immigration Department to approve their application.

Objectives:

Participants will be able to:

1. Describe the many different immigration cases and how to write an effective report.

2. What the immigration department needs to see in this letter in terms of sessions, diagnosis and information.

3. Identify the relevant DSM-5 diagnostic criteria

4. Identify appropriate treatment recommendations and how to summarize their report effectively.

Why am I doing this course?

As a child of an immigrant, I have a heart for these people & this work. If you are not called to work with this field, it’s important we don’t re-traumatize our clients as many immigrants we will work with have been scammed by professionals before we ever meet them.

It’s about the calling, not the money. Yes this field can be lucrative and we will discuss that in a later module, in the meantime make sure this course is what you have a heart for.

These cases aren't easy to do, they are very timely to complete as effective as possible. Let’s get to work!
